feeding question

tommymac Apr 03, 2006 11:57 AM

I have 2 jungle carpets for over 3 years now. My female was always a slightly finicky eater but would never go more than 2 weeks without eating. Now she has been refusing food for over 2 months now. The male who is in a cage right next to her is a voracious eater and is still taking whatever I put in there. Everything has been prety consistant but she just refuses to take anything ( my mex mex is currently doing the same thing) I feed them prekilled frozen rats and have tried getting them from a few different sources.

She is still prety avtive and when I introduce the food she peeks up and stares at it for a while then goes about her business. Any ideas as to what to do since I am starting to get concerned.

Thanx

Tom M

Are you sure that it's a female? Males will often go off feed during the breeding season...
In most cases gravid females will also refuse food...

i would have to agree..are you sure its a female and not a male? i always thougth my @4year old 7 foot 'male' was a female till he went on hunger strikes and was very restless at wanting out. come to find out she was a he. (a shed revealing sperm plugs help too) i wouldn't worry just yet. mine went for a couple months at a time without eating. from sept to dec last year he wouldn't eat. ate in december. then not again till just recent. he is finally calm and eating regularly again.
