genetics question

ecoguard_79 Apr 03, 2006 01:23 PM

ok so i have what i would say is a juvenile albino bull (the albino bull part i am sure of)(a rescue from last summer, about 4 ft long)
i am interested in breeding it next year, and i would like to know if anyone has any suggestions for a good morph to mix with the albino trait.(the black is replaced by pink and he has red eyes)
this is my first time on this forum,i had no clue that there were so many bull snake morphs out there. can anyone offer me any pointers on genetics.
also if anyone knows of any good morph breeders in canada, a link to a website would be greatly appreciated.
thanks for your time and replies

Depending on which one of the lines of albino's he is out of, you have a lot of options. If it is an albino trumbower bull he is probally het for one of the other morphs Craig was producing at the time so you have a lot of choices. If not breeding him to a normal or any of the other morphs which will produce hets for both traits. You could breed him to an albino to produce all albino's.

Good Luck now that you are hooked LOL. ( you can't have just one pit.)

thanks for the suggestions, i adopted him from someone here in montreal, quebec, so any idea what line it might be from the location? what i was planning on was to breed him to a normal female, then cross breed the young, and see what turns up

and i think the "cant stop with just one" applies to most herps hehe. i have several gecko species, corn snakes, and ball pythons as well...(upwards of 30 animals between my gf and i) and many eggs incubating.

ps those snakes in your pic are amaizing, i hope to get there someday.

There are 2 well established lines of albino bulls which both originated in Texas. One from the Lubbock area and the other from the, I believe, Abilene zoo. Word has it that they are not compatible. Breeding one to the other will produce wild type animals which are double het for albino. The more common line is that out of Abilene which is being referred to here as the Trumbower line. I would breed your animal to an albino from the Abilene (Trumbower) line and include as many other traits (white sided etc.) as you like to see if it is carrying any of them. If not, you will most likely get albinos/het for whatever else you threw into the mix.
