Big scare with my sikorae

HoWheels Jul 29, 2003 10:58 AM

So I'm in my new apartment now, finally have everything moved in and set up.

I get home from shopping last night, and I find a cricket hopping around the living room (these things ALWAYS find a way to escape from my Vision cage).

I catch it and go to put it in the cage, when HOLY **** ... I see TONS of ants EVERYWHERE on my enclosure. All over the exterior, all over the substrate, all over an egg my female just laid. There were some crawling on the geckos too which made me freak out. I pulled them out immediately and set them up in my temporary 1 gal plastic enclosure.

I pulled out the egg, but I'm not sure if it's any good.

I then spent a good 5 hours cleaning the whole enclosure out, putting new substrate in, and making sure all the ants were gone.

While the geckos were in the smaller enclosure, the female laid another egg, and I was able to transfer it to my 'incubator' fully intact and prestine.

I just hope I don't have any more run-ins with ants in the future!

Thats crazy!!!! I had a problem like that, but not as bad. Earlier this summer I put my crix inside the attic doorway. When I went to get them to feed the next night, the whole enclosure was full of ants. They killed all 200 plus crickets I had in there too and were eating them. I've never been so freaked out and pissed off at the same time Good luck in the future though....especially with the eggs!
