Do Bloods Feed Like Balls?

rottenweiler9 Apr 03, 2006 07:20 PM

My blood is a year old and has been off feed for awhile. cage is perfect. Most times she is in her water bowl, or underneath paper. If the are like Balls and go off feed, then I will not worry but if they are suppose to eat, well then she does not.

I'm new to Bloods myself. I've only had mine for about 2 months, if that. I feed her once a week, one mouse. She didn't wanna eat last week, but she ate yesterday. If you're talkin' months that she hasn't eaten, then I'd start looking more closely at her living conditions, specifically temperature.

No bloods don't go off feed.I would check temps and humidity. Then I would change from newspaper to cypress mulch or orchid bark. Then I would provide a TIGHT FITTING HIDE.Bloods need to feel secure and comfortable or they will not thrive.I was having the exact same problem with one of my younger bloods. So here's the last thing I tried, she wasn't eating frozen so I fed her prekilled rats weekly for 4/6 weeks straight to get her metabolizm going. She took to frozen the week after.Good Luck.

Hey,
Bloods are not by any means anything like Ball's. They are in a class by them self. Also, follow some of the advice you have received from Ash and the other fellow. They are giving you some pretty good tips to follow. Husbandry and set up are all contributing factors to look at with non feeders. Bloods for the most part, feed pretty regularly and don't usually go off feed unless there is something very wrong, or it is going to shed. Check out the temps, hide, substrate, moisture and lighting condition. The last not usually imperative as they are ambush predators and nocturnal.
