Hello, this is my first time posting on the garter forum. Living in WA garters where the snakes I grew up with. I would spend hours out in the field looking for garters. Me and my hubby bought a new house 17 months ago just crawling with them. It's my dream home : )
Ok well in October 05 my corgi mix found a tiny garter. It was barely alive. The thing was dehydrated, emaciated, and freezing cold. One thing I noticed right away is that he had an injury that was scared over. It went all the way around his body. I really didn't think I could save him. Its now been about 6 months and he is doing great. He is growing, eating, and drinking.
My question is do you think a garter with an injury like that would stand a chance in the wild? I was planning on letting him go when the weather warms up. He moves funny, its better now but still not normal. He also has a hard time getting food down. He will keep trying to push it though but can't get past the scar. He has never regurgitated on me and it has been coming out the other end so it must be getting though.
Here is a pic of him after he ate. You can see where the worm stops. He won't even try eating larger worms. I think he knows they won't fit.
