Painting

RoyalVariations- Apr 04, 2006 09:48 AM

This is a painting that I painted for Reptiles magazines September 1999 cover. The Wide Striped Royal Python was one of many such animals that I had collected from imports at the same time I collected my orignal Ghost's back around 1993. I was looking through some files the other day and ran across this issue of Reptiles magazine. This is another painting that the Sutherlands have in their collection.

Sincerely, Kyle

and have wanted to get in contact with you ever since but never really knew where to start! Your painting in that issue was very inspirational. I painted a couple of acrylic and water colors in art class and have incorporated many of my snakes into my Photoshop class last semester in college (I received A’s and again credit that article for inspiring me). I am not a BP buff but keep/breed Boas instead. I would love to see some of your work sometime, and would like to purchase some prints if you sell any. Are you still in NYC? I live in Allentown and make trips to the city now and then. Keep up the awesome work, and great to see you on the forums!!!

But having seen your paintings in person that they are so real looking they look like photographs. You really have to look close to tell they are paintings. Pretty amazing stuff. I have never seen anything like it and I have seen alot of paintings all over the world.

Kyle,

That is awesome, I love the accurate perspective (that's so hard to do) only a true master can do it!. Talk to you
soon and looks like we are all going to the Bottom Line if I am coming to New York City!

Hi Jay,

Oil on panel. I focus only on oil painting myself. Acrylics dry to fast and water color does not allow me to "move the paint around". I usually paint on primed linen "I hand prime my linen" with white lead. The lead paint strengthens the paint layers and allows the paint to slide across the painting surface. Acrylic gesso is like painting on fine sand paper and it is far too absorbent.

I like oils myself. I don't paint anymore but I've always been fascinated with WC. I tried to paint an albino BP with WC, but alas, it's quite difficult. It takes real talent. From your photos and paintings, I'd say you have it.

Keep the pictures coming. They are very nice!

Jay,

Thank you for the nice comments. Water Color is not an easy medium for sure and like most things it takes alot of practice to master any thing you do. Again I appreciate your kind words and if you ever want to try painting again please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions that I might be able to help you with.

I keep talking about it with my wife but never have the time. If I ever do *make* the time, I'll contact you for sure.

Thanks!

I've checked out your site several times over the last few months. In fact I have it in my favorites. I'm anxious to see what you add to your Surreal Imagery gallery. I love Fantasy artwork and old classical artwork such as Dieric Bouts, his Hell painting is haunting.

Will you be at any of the reptile shows such as Daytona, Chicago or Indianapolis?

Hi Gail,

I am very glad you like my paintings. I must aoplogize for not updating my site lately. Enclosed is one of my new Surreal paintings. I also need to update my works in progress page. I hope you like this painting. One of my new drawings has a surreal figure with a Royal Python going in and out of the figure. One of my projects this year is a painting of a Caramel Albino in a natural setting.

I have not attended many of the shows but I might try to attend one this year but not sure about that as of yet. We are in the process of buying a house and I am designing my new website for Royal Variations. Wow that takes alot of time.

Again thank you for the nice comments and I am glad you look at my website. I will try to make updates on a more regular basis.

Sincerely, Kyle

Damn that's cool

Kyle, how disturbed does one's mind need be to come up with such artwork Just kidding, I absolutely love it!!!

I put your artwork site in my favorites ages ago. Your artwork is outstanding and I liked the fact that you are also into reptiles. Surreal artwork and snakes blend well or complement each other

Building a website is time consuming never mind fitting life in with everything else that needs doing. Thanks for posting that new painting

Have a nice night and thanks again.
