Male Behavior? is this normal?

bluetreefingers Apr 04, 2006 12:09 PM

i have a pair of leopard geckos in a 20 gallon tank. She is gravid and all shes does is sit on the warm side of the tank, day and night. He is a bit more active, and roams around all day, lately ive noticed him lift up his tail and bend over to lick his "male parts", ive seen him do this about 3 times this week. Im not worried since i dont think its a problem at all but i was curious to know why males do this.

also, she has completly stopped eating, ive read that its normal for them to eat little or none at all while they are gravid. so no worries there, but he has stopped eating too... hes not gravid whats his excuse?

thanks for your time,
aaron

It's normal for male leos to stop eating because he's main objective at the time is to procreate. Thats a very normal behavior.

Sympathy pains, and as far as the male licking himself.....umm...if you could wouldn't you. lmao.

Does sound mostly normal. I generally recommend removing the male so she will be comfortable to lay.
