selling snakes to support habit ?

lawdawg18 Apr 04, 2006 12:41 PM

I have a vision to breed a few snakes to sell so that I can expand my collection. Currently I have a Het Pied male, and 4 normal females. The Pieds are my favorite morph, but I would like to one day be able to expand my collection to have at least an albino,a pastel, and maybe a few other. Is it unreasonable to think I would be able to sell enough off spring to be able to one day expand my collection?

You will have 50% het for pied babies when you breed your het male to your normal females. Keep the female offspring and breed them back to the father and with a little luck you will have that Pied baby. I guarentee you will have no problem doing a trade or selling a pied for that albino or Pastel you want.

I had hoped for some babies this year, but I was moving during the normal breeding season and my snakes were being kept by my brother so I think I missed out. I have been pairing up my male with my largest female for the past month, but they did not get the ideal cool down.

That is actually why most people breed and sell, to reinvest into the market to expand their collection. There are not alot of people who don't sell to buy or trade. Some people make some extra money, but most take that extra money and reinvest. It's the best way to go, rather than try to make a quick buck like some people do. Long term goals are more realistic when it comes to breeding bp's IMO. -J.

That is what i am doing. i cant afford 10k animals so i go me a SWEET pastel male from the Sutherlands and a few big females. I plan to breed the pastel to all the females, then keep ALL the female pastels. sell/trade of the rest for maybe some hets or a Ghost. once the pastel females get big enough ill breed the same male to the pastel females. depending on what i get ill hold back a super and trade the rest for other morphs.

Good luck!!!
