Processed chicken as large boid food...

pythonsbaby Apr 04, 2006 02:26 PM

I know that a few years ago, it was taboo to feed your Burm or Retic a dressed Chicken from say Perdue or any supermarket that was prepared for human consumption. I was wondering if that opinion is still prevalent or are some of you feeding your larger snakes whole prepared Chickens. Sometimes the rabbit supply isnt there when you need them. Just curious.

Has anyone had any issues with feeding a thawed frozen chicken?

Any positive comments about it?

I feed my burms supermarket chicken and have know problems. In fact i think it is better! Your feeding strait meat with the chickens but with rats, rabbits, etc.... your feeding guts, skin, fur, etc... Your not feeding your snake 10 pounds of rabbit when you give him a 10 pounder. Your giveing him 5-6 pounds of [bleep] and maybe 4 pounds of rabbit meat. With chicken if you say you feed your burm 10 pounds of meat well it was 10 pounds of MEAT. Lets not forget the price too. A 10 pound rabbit 7-10 dollars a 10 pound bag of chicken leg quarters 4 dollars and 50 cents. When i was feeding rabbits my burms would grow but not like i wanted them to. I started feeding chicken and they blow up in length and weight. O yeah theres not a big pile of [bleep] waiting for you ether. Because when they eat chicken they use most of the food that there eating. Like i said no hair, skin, guts, fat, etc..... To everyone reading this please do not hate i like to feed chicken it is my buisness. If you have a problem with it please keep it to yourself.

You don't understand your snake. Snakes eat whole animals because they need everything in them. They need the meat, the nutrients (more than what is found in meat), the fur, the bones, etc. If your snake isn't getting that, it will suffer down the line.

That is what I wanted to know. Basically any animal that eats raw meat protein can handle a normal amount of natural bacteria. Thanks for all your help folks.

Don't hold me to this, but I'm pretty sure I once read an article in reptile magazine written by Bob Clark where he stated that he feeds them chicken pieces or whole processed chickens. I never have personally, I have a great rabbit hook up, but if Bob Clark says it's ok, I would think it's ok.
