Happy Birthday Turtle Egg!

PATMAN Apr 04, 2006 02:53 PM

Some of you may remember my post on January 29 about my female box turtle laying 5 eggs, only 2 were fertile.

Here it is 66 days later and I found one of the eggs hatching this morning. I'm a bit worried about the second egg. As you can see it has developed a dent and when I put a pen light next to it I can see a baby turtle smaller than the one that has hatched. Maybe she just has to "cook" a little longer in the incubator before she's done.

Let's focus on the one hatching for now and the pictures below. Let's hear some aww ....isn't it cute from you all out there! I'll post some more pictures when she's fully out of the egg. Right now she just resting in it. Hatching is hard work don't you know! :D

Congratulations. I can't believe how fast 66 days passed, it seems like I read that last post just a couple of weeks ago. It's amazing to me that you already hatched your '06 clutch when my turtles aren't even fully awake yet. I probably won't see the first hatchling until late August at the earliest. Again, it's great to see captive propagation in action!
