Something wrong with tail!!! Please HELP!......

Josh06 Jul 29, 2003 12:19 PM

My bell albino has something wrong with her tail. I took a pic of it, because I didnt think i could describe it too good. Well, can you please look at my pic and tell me what you think is wrong with it. She is fine in every other way, except this. She had no crix, or worms roaming her cage that could possibly do this. Thanx for the help...

looks like it dying the tip, I'd clean it up and everyday put betadine on it.

Josh, she could have had some trauma to it, maybe something fell on it or the lid accidentally closed on it even could be a stuck shed you didnt notice at the tip of her tail, just use some betadine solution and cut it in half with water. clean it daily and keep her enclosure emaculate. she should be fine

Thanks everyone. I will put some betadine on it. Oh and Robin, what did you mean by put it in water and cut it in half. Does that mean that i should cut the tip off where this is happening? I really hate that she will have the tip regrown, I just hope it wont be too noticeable. Thanks again for the help....

I wasn't going to cut it off. I wanted to make sure you werent going crazy or I wasnt going crazy...lol Do you think there is a chance it will heal, or do you think it will just fall off?? You can just ignore my last e-mail because i basically asked you the question that you just answered in the other post....

its hard to say if she will lose it or not. it depends on how much damage has been done. just clean it with the betadine/water solution about once a day or every otherday. keep her on paper towels and make sure and keep it very clean and emaculate go with the basics until it begins to heal. you can if you want but a bit of A and D ointment (get it at wally in the health and beaty aids or baby section. but do not use much its a safe petrolium based pointment for rashes and crap and will promote healing but be aware the geek might want to try and lick it off so try it once and see how she reacts to it. watch her for a bit to see if she tries to lick it off. i have used it on my snakes but never the geckos and snakes dont lick it off generally

Hi.

It is almost definitely that she had a piece of shedded skin left on the base of her tail.

It happened recently to one of mine.

That piece will turn black and eventually fall off and grow back.

Though it will drive you crazy, it seems to hardly effect the leos, especially yours seems to only have a very small part of its tail affected. Mine had a larger part, but still no more than a 1/4 of the tail.

I put poly sporin on until it turned black, and then again for a few days after it fell off. Once it starts growing back, you can leave her alone.

No, thats not it. Its kind of a bad angle, but it actually looks like it was chewed on. You can see that their are cuts in it and it doesnt look like retained shed at all from all angles.

Have you ever seen a badly retained shed around a toe or tail before? That's what it looks like ... It's startling.

Not saying that that's what it is for sure, but it's what I'd bet on.

Here's one way to prove or disprove that theory ... how long has it been like that? If it's been like that a while, slowly getting worse, its more than likely retained shed. If it seemingly occured overnight, it could be bites of some sort. Just know that retained shed can go from unnoticed to bad pretty quickly.

Best of luck,
Joel

PS: Either way, same treatments and be prepared for her to lose that tail. I'll post a pic of my girl who lost the tip of her tail a little later so that maybe you can know what to expect.

Email me if you want...

Well, yesterday I checked on her and I didnt see anything like that. And then this morning when I went in to look at her I saw this. So, either that unshed skin was camouflaged to her skin so well that I couldnt see it, or it is something else. I put her tail in some betadine earlier and will do it again tomorrow. I do expect her to lose that tip, but I hope it wont take too much away from her looks. I would appreciatte the pic though, so I can see what I will have to deal with. Thanks...
