Need Help With Gravid Female.

MidnightFalcon May 19, 2003 01:46 PM

A couple days ago, I noticed that my gravid female was due soon so I moved her into a 10 gallon bucket with dampened sand, a light (about 80-85 F), and a hide box. She hasn't laid yet and I was just curious if I was doing something wrong? When she does lay her eggs, if it is a success of them being fertile how long will it take them to hatch and what temps should I have it on?

What did you have her in before? I also have a gravid female, and i just leave her in her normal cage, with a lay box. Mine is just a container with bed a beast in it, and shes layed 3 clutches so far. I think maybe this would be better so it doesnt stress her out from moving? This is what worked for me, good luck.

Thanks, I had her in a 10 gallon with sand and a hide box. This is the first time she's been gravid so I'm worried about the eggs not being fertile. I'll check on her tonight and if she hasn't laid I'll move her back into her original tank. Should I move the male out if I do move her back? When she does lay the eggs should I take them out or leave them in there? Should the Leos go out if I leave 'em?

Put her back in if she hasnt layed them, and remove the male, he might stress her out. Dont leave the eggs in there, they'll probably just shrivel up. If you dont have an incubator, I'd get one and read some stuff about how to hatch the eggs (humidity, temp ect.) Being her first time, they most likely wont be fertile anyway so that gives you some time to prepare for when she does lay a fertile clutch. Hope this helps ya,

No offense but that was a bad idea moving her out of her normal cage. Just put her back in her cage witha small tuperware with moistened vermiculite on the bottom. You can buy vermiculite at homedepot and lowes you will find it in the plant section. If you keep the eggs at 85 degrees they should hatch out in 45 days (quicker with higher temps) however i have 2 eggs in my incubator right now which are at 49 and 48 days at avg of 87 degrees and they are just now showing the first signs of hatching they will still probably be a couple days.
