Now what?

Well, after finding out for sure that Runako was biting Roxy, I planned on try to put her with Rocky. Rocky has not had another uro in his tank since I had him, but he's so compliant on everything to this point, I had to try.

Well today, I went to get more sand and took Rocky out of his cage, Roxy from hers, cleaned and rearranged the tank. well, it only took about two minutes before Rocky ran over, licked her, then latched on to her leg.

So, Until I figure out how to afford another cage and lighting, I'm going to have to screw in a partition to seperate Roxy and Runako. She's eating ok and weight is ok, but she's getting pretty scared up.

the upsided? Tanks are looking good.

Bummer - that's really frustrating. Hopefully she'll be able to relax now that she's on her own. Poor girl!

I was afraid that this would happen. I found it didn't make any difference if I changed the tank around, my uros were still aggressive to each other. Your uros will probably have to be separated permenantly.
The plus side is that they should get along well during the breeding season.

If you can't really afford another tank, a very large rubbermaid tub will suffice in the meantime.

Yeah, it's not the tank itself, it is the added wattage and bulb costs. Sounds pretty petty (pretty petty? ) but it's just really tight right now. For now, I'll probably put up a barrier in the existing tank.

Jim

Did you remove all of Runako's scent from Roxy before you tried placing her with Rocky? If not, you might want to give her a thorough washing and try it again. (Well supervised of course.)

The fact that the bite seemed to occur fairly quickly after introduction could mean that Rocky might have been reacting from scent. I am not saying that this is what happened, just that it is a possibility so if you are serious in placing the two together, you might want to give the thorough washing a try if you have not done so already.

Considering how passive she's grown, I'd be willing to try that. Hadn't thought of that one. What would you suggest I use to wash her with? I've got plenty of powdered Oxy-clean .

Seriously, I'm interested in knowing.

Water has always done the trick for me.
You want to make sure that it is a thorough washing.

The washing technique has remedied several situations for me where the male was not receptive at first. I do not routinely wash every female being placed with a new male as sometimes, it almost appears as if another male’s scent might spur mating behavior from a new male. Do I have everyone confused now? You just never know which reaction might occur so my suggestion would be to try bathing if the first introduction does not go smoothly. If you are not interested in breeding, you may want to routinely bathe/wash all new enclosure mates as a precautionary measure to prevent aggression.
