I decided to hand feed my MBK tonight and hand an epiphany....
If you hand feed live prey, expect to get urinated and deficated on! If the snake doesn't do it the food will

Yeah, I was gonna say... did the snake have a hard time killing the food? I bet it was too scared to even try to attack it. Be careful doing that, actually I'd recommend NOT doing that, but like matt said, different strokes.

Well, before you resorted to name calling I think there are some questions you should have asked.

#1 Will the snake take frozen thawed? No

#2 Have I tried to switch to frozen thawed? Yes, many times and I am still in the process.

#3 Is the rodent stunned and unable to fight back? Yes

I usually try and get the whole story before jumping to conclusions, but that is ok. The egg isn't on my face.

That's a interesting word, i had to look it up. Well anyway if your're feeding live rodents to snakes in-hand expect some nasty business from the rodents(pee/poop/bite). Where's the pics?

phiber_optikx Apr 06, 2006 12:59 AM

Hey Jetzen, these are old pics but they get the point across. Just to reiterate the rodents are at the very LEAST stunned and unable to hurt myself or the snake in any way. For some reason he just won't take frozen thawed.

feeding live is not that bad, i prefer using FT or fresh killed but i have several snakes (cali/thayeri/pyro) that do better with live, live food stimulates the feeding response better than a soggy FT,IMO. Plus when i have too many live mice and my freezer is full then I'll feed my snakes mostly live, but there is a bummer about live and that is sometimes it's tuff to get some snakes back on FT.
