Broken tail

purpleneon420 Apr 05, 2006 03:21 PM

My iguana hit her tail in the bathtub about 2 weeks ago and about 1/2 inch of her tail broke off. It stopped bleeding and we cleaned it really good and put antibiotic ointment on it. But the tip never fell off, it is just hanging on by a thread. I still clean it and put ointment on it, and the end turned really dark but i just wondered do i let it fall off on its own or should it be cut off? Her tail looks good though, just not the tip.

Get rid of the dead tip, it can cause infections later. If it's just a thread as you say, it should be nearly painless to snip.
Keep it clean, medicated, and it will be fine.

The same thing happened to Tiny when I first got him. Took it to the vet and they clipped it off. He didnt squirm or show pain, just twitched his tail like when it gets stuck between something. Nothing to bad.
