markalan Apr 05, 2006 10:45 PM

Evan,
Nice spider!! I'm making a sweatbox rack out of acrylic and aluminum. I have a sheetmetal shop with my dad. I'll email you some pics. Thanks for the offer earlier.

idealreptiles Apr 05, 2006 11:02 PM

Yea, I saw your post below.
I was going to ask for pics... it sounds pretty cool.
But a lot more of a pain and $$ to make then my racks.

markalan Apr 06, 2006 01:15 PM

Hi Evan,
Actually if you have the machines to punch, bend and finish it's pretty easy. I've got all my pieces programmed already and if I need to make a certain size rack I'd just alter the programs.
The only thing that's time consuming is the first initial prototype. After that the job is easy, if someone wanted the same one I made for myself it would take and hour and a half to get it from raw material to ready for paint.

I'm so heavy and my ball python is so small that we make a comical couple. Here we are relaxing at home with a good book.

How'd I miss this

So Bill ... how many times a year do you need to build a fire down there in Louisiana to keep warm ... I'm surprised there are fireplaces down there ... I thought it's hot as hell year round
-----
gail

_____

wftright Apr 08, 2006 06:29 PM

LOL

We never "need" to build a fire in Louisiana, but many of the houses here have fireplaces as an excuse to have a mantel in the living room. We typically get about six or seven days per year where the temperature is in the low 30's during the day and the low 20's at night. Typically, those six or seven days come in two or three batches of a few days each. We have a month or so where the temperature drops into the 30's at night and maybe another month or so where it drops into the 40's. We get quite a few warm days in the winter, but mostly we see 50's. That's very warm compared to the north, but we don't wear shorts all year.

For the record, I've not used the fireplace in the four years that I've been here. Those birch logs are logs that my great-aunt had in her attic. I took them because they'd make a great decoration for my fireplace. I have no intention of ever burning them. In fact, she had kept them because someone had given a bunch of birch logs to her once for the same purpose. She occasionally had a fire in the fireplace, but she'd remove the birch logs while burning the fire and put them back after she'd cleaned the ashes.

In any case, now you know what I look like.

gailt Apr 08, 2006 07:36 PM

Bill .. I had no idea it got that cold down there. My idea of Louisiana is heat, humidity, gators and alligator snapping turtles in the bayou, cookouts with crawfish, and the Mardi Gras

That's pretty cool that you have those birch logs from your great-aunt

I'm just wondering how long you're going to wait for Santa to fill those stockings that are still hanging from the mantle mid April?

LOL Thank you, that one was good.

If I entertained enough for my decorations to matter, I'd probably find something to replace them. However, I find that I like the looks of the place better with a little dash of color there. My Mom actually made those. I think that they are crochet. She also made that red Christmas tree decoration ball hanging to the right of the stockings. She makes a bunch of them every year, and I have them hanging all over my house. While they're supposed to be for a Christmas tree, I never put up a tree. Instead, I hang them various places and like them enough that I keep them up all year long. I also have a bunch of little angels that she's made that are all over the place.

I keep waiting, but the stockings that I really want Santa to fill include a garter. I guess they remain unfilled because I'm not a good boy.
