I have a savannah monitor lizard and I want to know if anyone knows how to get a fecal concentration test? We need to see if our lizard has salmonella and to what extent she has it? thanks

Please read the "Salmonella Client Educational Handout" available on our website under the Articles of Interest section. It was published by the Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians and is informative as a brief overview on Salmonellosis information, prevention and such.

I asked a vet about salmonella a few years ago. I was told that as long as I used common sense and washed my hands with antibacterial soap after touching the reptiles, that there wasn't really anything to worry about. A general rule is that anyone that goes into the "reptile room" of my home will use antibacterial sanitizer before they leave the room. I also watch kids to make sure they don’t put their hands on their face after touching a reptile.
