Pied Question

pzadude Apr 05, 2006 08:38 PM

I'm curious about whether you can breed for high or low white pieds, or is the degree of white completely random? It seems to me that if you are breeding high whites together you're more likely to get high whites but I saw a post on KS which seemed to indicate that high whites could easily be the product of low white breeding.

Sounds reasonable that what they look like would come from their parents, it could also be from the temperature of the eggs, maybe you should ask Ralph Davis, he's cool

It does not matter if you breed low or high white, the end result is still random. This is what makes Pieds so cool to hatch out, you never know what you might get. Hope I could help. Jon

Great! New lesson learned. Thanks for the replies.

with ENOUGH selective breeding you are more likely (theoretically) to get high white from high whites and low from low.

The selective breeding to do this would result in tight inbreeding to breed out the likely-hood of looking like the other type, and breeding Pied X Pied. This is not advisable do the other affects on the animals, so for now just buy what you like and hope the babies will look the same!
