Substrate

laughingdragons Apr 05, 2006 09:56 PM

Hi,

I have 2 beardies and I'm looking for some new kind of substrate to use for their tanks.

Right now I'm using wheat bran and it always has bugs in it.

What else is safe for them to use?

TIA
Jeanette

We have enjoyed our experiement with Gentle Touch products as advertised in Reptiles Magazine. It has a nice appearance, is dust free, and does what it claims to do. From what I have heard from others no one has experienced problems from it. I would like to hear from others who are using or have tried Gentle Touch.

Thanks

Is reptiles magazine the only place to find it?

Do they have a website or is there a store that carries it?

Thanks

gentletouchproducts.com has a listing of where you can purchase the bedding in your area. I had to travel about 30 minutes but it was worth it!

I use wheat bran for my adults. If you bake your bran at 250 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes that should solve your bug problem.
Take care,

question on how you did this.....did you grout the tile in or just cut the tile to a perfect fit? this is so easy to do i dont know why i never thought of this. i used childrens playsand right now but im getting tired of the dust in the room and my alergies acting up. not to mention alot of people say the sand is bad for dragons but i have had no problem. also... do you think laminate vinyl flooring tile may work as well??? thanks

i just cut the tile to fit, no grout....this way you can take 'em out to clean them & the whole tank when need be. i would advise against the laminant flooring, onlty because the heat emitts gassy fumes. some people leave a small section of sand on 1 end along with the tile, because they like to dig & were used to the sand.....mine was on shelving paper to start with & no sand, so i didn't bother with any.

sounds great, i am going to do this to all of my glass tanks now. dont think it will work as well on my pvc tank is has rounded corners on the base. out of curiousity how much did this cost per cage? love the way it looks

i got the tile set up in my cages now. i love it. i couldnt do it in one cage cause of the type of cage it is, but im keeping my females in there since they dig in the sand when they are about to lay eggs. the tile is so easy to clean and looks great. no more dust from the sand covering everything. thanks for the idea
