Humid Hide Question....

Robert Apr 06, 2006 09:52 AM

Now that I have some nice boaphiles with quite a bit of space I am going to give my rainbows a humid hide...My question is, at my local home depot they have a large sealed bag of peat moss at a low cost, is that ok to use?

Thanks alot,
Robert Remendowski

I got a bag of sphagnum peat moss (actual moss, not the dark dirt-like stuff) from the local hardware store. It stays fluffy, and my boa loves to burrow through it. I also use it for incuabtion because it retains moisture well, but doesn't smother the eggs. This is just what works for me, though. It's by no means the only option.

I use the same stuff in my vivarium. Home Despot carries it also. The boas really seem to like it (at least thats what they say).

I use about 1 inch of peat moss, that's the dark dirt like stuff on the bottom. Then add another 1 inch layer of green moss on top of the peat moss. The peat moss makes a nice substrate while the green moss gives them something to burrow in.
