water dragon is really dark in morning??

neoclassic Apr 06, 2006 12:32 PM

i built a new enclosure for my water dragon, it's a 50 gallon tank, half of it land/rocks and the rest is water. the water is maybe a little above room temperature.

whenever i wake up in the morning and check on it, he is very dark in color, almost black. i keep a moon light on at night to keep the thing warm.

any ideas?

many sepcies do this when they first wake up and have not warmed up yet, i have a water dragon too and he does that along with a bunch of my other stuff. if you are really worried, which you shouldn't be, get a heating pad or a night ublb.

A 50 gal tank is pretty small for a water dragon. How old is he?? What type of heating and lighting do you have?? And what temp/humidity guages do you have???

Water Dragons need day temps of about 82 - 88 degrees, and probably 95 in the basking area. Plus, about 75 - 80 at night. When they are cold, they will turn darker. What is the water temp??? I change mine out every morning, just to be sure it is clean and warm. Some ppl have heaters in the pools, and pond filters.

Tricias is an awesome site, lots of info!!
