Well thank you for the help. Even tho i get the feeling you were being sarcastic in some of your answers. I meet two species as in bearded and gila sorry my mind moves at 1000 mph. Are they protected in Mexico aslo? Maybe you dont realize it but the way you answered me I felt was trying to make me look and feel dumb or something. If that is the case it had the reverse effect.

Thank You, Derek

Although you may have sensed some sacrcasm, he did answer all your questions, maybe not the way you expected. You have to understand, there aren't a whole lot of people in here (if any) that go out and catch wild animals for monetary reasons, especially Federally protected species. So, I think he refrained pretty well on not "lecturing" you, or flying off at the handle.
If you ask a question like, "How much does a wild caught gila go for?", you're giving the impression that you are doing so simply for money, and the hotkeepers in here don't want to hear that. They are protected for a reason, and it's that same reason you asked about, people catching and selling them. If you do find any, and decide to do anything but take pictures, you will get caught. So I'd be real careful.

but good luck getting them back across the border-they're listed as protected here so it's just as big of a problem as catching Gilas.

I beleive that they are protected in Mexico, which protects them here by the LACY act?

I knew there was protective laws somewhere, just didn't think they were along the whole chain(like some other reptiles-unprotected in home country but listed as endangered here)

Just in case you're still reading:

1) The comments about your grammar were probably uncalled for.

2) You asked for people on this board to tell you everything they know about Gilas. That would take some people on this board (not me because I know fairly little about them) a week to type up what you could find with 5 minutes of searching on the web. That's not a reasonable request.

3) The first response answered your reasonably specific questions with a fairly small amount of sarcasm, at which point you went ballistic, working your way up to calling a long time member here at least two crude names your first appearance here...and then expect everyone to be nice you?

4) Your questions make it sound like you know almost nothing about gilas, so I think it's perfectly reasonable for someone to assume you're not qualified to keep them. If you didn't know they were protected, you can't have done much research.

5) This is an exact quote from your first message: "Where i can catch them?" and you think it was unreasonable for someone to assume that you wanted to catch some?

Wouldn't him asking questions be a step in the right direction of learning and doing research?

polo6918 Apr 07, 2006 11:07 AM

Good Question

Yes it would be.

Any question that didn't start with "tell me everything you know about..." certainly would. Since he did ask several more specific questions, I normally would have just answered any I could and possibly even taken a few minutes to look up one of the Gila pages I read a while back and posted a link. I only responded the way I did because he (seemingly) flipped out when someone else didn't answer with "everthing they knew". It looks like most of that has since been deleted by the moderators, including his (their) announcement that the whole thing was a joke by 3 or 4 people posting in turns, so maybe you didn't get to see what I was responding to. Without that context my reply probably looks pretty harsh.
