Tomorrow's the big move...advice needed-

Chamcham505 Apr 06, 2006 03:30 PM

Well, everything is packed up (using a friends computer right now ) and I'll be on my way to Sannibel Island, FL tomorrow. Today was a day of saying goodbye to old friends and family, and it will take me around 2 days to get to FL.

So, I'll be driving, and taking both of my chameleons, but what do I put them in? I would hate to coop them up in a small, glass aquarium (ehh) but their screen enclosures are far too big, and they'll be in the car for a while. I've booked a hotel for one night, but I doubt they'll let me bring the chams in, so I don't know what to do with them at night (I think I'll sneak 'em in there, no sweat) Any suggestions?

Oh, and I'm guessing I won't be on here for a week, as it will take a while to get everything organized and situated once in FL, so thanks!

Michelle

Hey michelle,
My advice would be to pack em up as if you were going to ship them. I'd get a small container, big enough for them to sit comfortably on a perch, but small enough that they cant get thrown around in it if you hit a big bump or something. This way they'll be in the dark for most of the moving process....so chances are, they'll sleep right through it.
Plus....it makes for an easy way to sneak em into a hotel room. Thats what I did when I had my table at Mid-Atlantic last year!!! Shhh, dont tell aybody. lol.

Good luck with the move.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I think I'll just put the in a roomy box when I arrive at the hotel, and the bellboys will be totally oblivious...just hope roomservice doesn't find them in the morning...

I would DEFINITELY sneak them in! You won't be able to sleep worrying about them! lol! Are you traveling alone?

The box idea is probably the way to go. You can put one box inside another and put a couple heat packs (or the handwarmers from K-Mart-type stores) in between or mixed in with fabric in main box). I also put bubblewrap b/t the two boxes for insulation. A branch and lots of soft material (not terry so claws don't get hooked) are good. Bring some long silk vines to hang in the shower to give them a bath! JK.

Hey, if you leave them in the room for any reason be sure to put DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door so housekeeping, etc. don't go in - just in case.

Be sure to check in with us once you get settled! I am so glad you worked everything out with the new landlord!

Safe Journey,

lele
