Eye Problem

mikthing Apr 06, 2006 07:20 PM

Pet Garter is 10 yrs. old. It recently shed but it is the first time it didn't get all the dead skin off. It's eye looks dented in and not clear. I thought I would buy it some minnows so it'll get moisture on the eye by swimming in the water dish. Maybe it will help to get the dead stuff off the eye? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanx, Michelle

You could try some kind of eye ointment. But you have to ask your local vet what kind you should use!

Sounds like a good solution.

If you want to though, you can do it yourself. The dead skin is usually pretty easy to soften with warm water. Just rub the water on the snake's eye for a few minutes until it loosens, and a gentle wiping with a towel should gradually pull it off.
You can also use tweezers, but that seems riskier, though faster and easier.

I agree with the things that Shaky mentioned, but I assumed that you already tried that.
