Redfoot losing her appetite.

allegraf Apr 06, 2006 09:31 PM

Well Biloxi is hardly eating. For the last week or so, I have noticed that her appetite has diminished significantly. She has also been skipping meals. She was one of my greediest torts. She went to the vet about two months ago and got a clean bill of health, minor parasites and a treatment of pancur. She is also housed outside in the South Florida weather. She is too small to be breeding, she is only about 8" in length and Kilwillie has not even attempted breeding. She has maintained her weight through out the week. And subjected to weekly soakings. Any suggestions? Should I take her back to the vet?

Thanks.

Do reds go through stages of growing/eating to grow? Kilwillie who used to be a shy eater has now become a hog and Biloxi is hardly eating at all! Biloxi has maintained the same weight since last month 1160 grams. Thanks.

Allegra, since we live in the same area I think that I can say that our recent weather has played a part in diminished appetites and activity.
It has been cool at night, very warm during the day, and most of all VERY, VERY dry and windy. Redfoots hate this kind of weather and my adults have also been pretty inactive. My males especially have moved very little in the past week and have only eaten favorite food items like papaya and some Mazuri.
My one male in particular has been in the same spot for three days without moving although he is clearly alert and looks around.
I think that as long as Biloxi isn't losing weight or showing others signs of illness (closed eyes, dull demeanor or bad stools, etc.)then it could very well be that she is in an inactive, energy conserving mode.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep monitoring her weight and disposition.
