heating/lighting

Ok, so today I picked up a ReptiSun 10.0 bulb. My question is this, do you need a light like this AND a spot lamp? or can I just use the ReptiSun? Also, if I DO need another spot lamp, what brand/kind is a very good one? or can I just use a ceramic heat emitter?
Thanks, -Colin

Yes you need full spectrum lighting and another for heat. Personally I prefer to use the ceramic heat emitters because they last for years but the heat light bulbs burn out too fast.
CHEs cost more initially but they're cheaper in the long run because they're reliable & I don't have to buy them several times each year.

hmm, what about one of those self-ballasted mercury vapor heat/UV bulbs on one side of the enclosure for a basking spot and UV, and then a heat pad on the wall on the other side of the enclosure just to keep the temps up?

The mercury vapors are expensive aren't they?
I read something about them... ahh here it is.
Here's the URL to Melissa Kaplan's website:
http://www.anapsid.org/maincaptive.html#lite
around the middle of the page is a whole group of articles on the mercury vapor lights. I'd read those before purchasing one.

A 10.0 reptisun and cermic heat emitters is exactly what I use on all my reptiles. Works great for me. I like the 10.0's I have noticed my animals looking better and eating better since I've been using them.
