What are Bolivian Boas like to keep?

dumkeeper5077 Apr 07, 2006 06:23 AM

I have kept and bred Dumerils for 6 years now and i'm seriously considering adding some B.C.C. to my collection. I've seen some very striking red tails on these forums but i've always had a liking for the Bolivian Boas (Amarali). I know B.C.C. can be more demanding than some to keep and have problems with feeding and regurgitation and have heard they are more delicate. Having brought up many Dums i'm used to control and strict attention of feeding schedules although i'd prefer a boa which has a better feeding response! What are Bolivians like to keep and what have people experienced with there feeding, breeding and behavioural habits?

they definately have a strong feeding response. However, I would put them along the same lines as BCC overall. You have to take it slow with them, and maintain PERFECT conditions. You shouldn't have much trouble keeping them, but breeding may be another issue alltogether.

Just a quick questions, would you suggest that when breeding bolivians, should one cycle them as some breeders do of BCI? When should the cycling begin, early as BCI or later such as BCC.

Thanks for your expertise.

an '03 female Blonde from Barry Miller, and an '04 Orange Crush from Kevin Barnett.

Mine aren't near breeding age yet. I give it two more years, after the female's fifth birthday in August 2008. Although next year is possible.

All of my information is from Kevin and Lee Barrie. According to Lee, amarali are one boa where you want to have extra males. It is known that males can be dud breeders, so if you want a small group go with 2.1 or 3.2.
I didn't do this, because I couldn't find another male that I really liked. I also haven't found another female that wasn't from one of the litters mine are from.

I believe the breeding cycle is much more like BCC. Since their range is close in some areas, but in others Amarali are farther South.

Lee, Kevin, and Barry seem to produce a litter each year. With some exceptions of course. If you are looking for more exact information, or from someone who has actually bred them, I would talk to these guys.

I feel like a scolded kindergarten student. By the way those instructions were to Chris...not me, weren't they? A simple "email me" or no reply at all I think would have been more appropriate...
