I made my own sweater box rack

markalan Apr 07, 2006 11:45 AM

Since I work with my dad at his precision sheetmetal shop I thought that I would use the equipment to make my own Sweater box rack for my babies. I couldn't see spending over $300 for one anyways.

I made the outer shell out of lightweight aluminum then had it painted with a polymer black texture by our own outside painting shop. The inside abs plastic shelves were cut at tap plastics. I didn't want them to be aluminum for fear of shorting out.
Thanks for your critiques or suggestions. Mark

Very nice.

How much does it weigh?

I really like it. So you made the aluminum channel that holds the plastic and the tub rim, or is that some sort of stock product?

You know, you might be able to sell that stuff. It could be used with just about any plastic since the weight of the tubs is supported by the sides instead of the shelves like in a typical rack.

Thanks for the props. I made everything including the brackets.
I used 12 gage aluminum for the sides of the rack and a thinner gage for the bottom, back and top. I'm still trying to figure my expenses and all because I used extra material that I had in house so I didn't buy any metal. all I bought was the plastic for the inside shelves.
