Chip the Explorer

PHRatz Apr 07, 2006 12:14 PM

Yesterday evening I looked all over for Chip, couldn't find him anywhere... until I looked up.
For a turtle who has such a devestating injury, I am just overjoyed by how well he's recovering.
He had walked up the dog ramp onto the couch & then apparently sat & watched us look for him lol.
What a brat.

It is amazing. Just a month before Chip was brought to me I took a class to my vet's & we video taped her doing a shell repair on a female box who'd been hit by a car. That one didn't make it. Frankly she didn't appear to be hurt as badly as Chip so we all really thought that she would live.
One thing that may have contributed to her death was the fact that we have no idea how long she'd sat on the road injured before the Good Samaritan picked her up & brought her to the vet. If she'd been found & treated sooner she may have made it. We'll never know.
So Chip not only living but healing so well has really been an awesome experience for me.

As for Mikey's girls they're all doing just fine now.

Thank you Patrick.
He is a handsome guy & partly what drew me into keeping him rather than having his vet keep him is that he looks different from most of the other wild male boxies we see around here. Most of them have green heads, very red eyes, lots of red color on the legs but Chip is yellow like our Janie, like our sulcata and like our yellow mud turtle. Although he does have some bright red coloring on his legs.. so does Janie our female.

His head is yellow not green, his eyes look brown not red however..I looked at his eyes one time in bright sunlight, I could see a light red hue to them...but in light other than bright sunlight his eyes don't appear to be red at all.
If it weren't for that extremely large male tail you wouldn't see right away that he is in fact male.

He's different and he's part of the family now.
