I wait until after the female sheds. I usually feed the female right after they shed (they eat while shedding too) and put them with the male the next day. I leave them there until the next feeding (I feed once a week, so five days). Then after the next feeding, I will either put a second female with the male or return the first one for a second week. I have found that they are not all that fussy, if well feed, they will likely breed any time.

I can't wait until eggs start hatching!

I would start trying. Most males will attempt to breed at any chance they have. Females will whip their tails around if they are not receptive. I constantly pair mine up almost every day I try my females with the males that I want to breed them with. The suggestion with shedding is that most of the time females are not receptive until after their 1st shed. It is NOT a hard and fast rule. Last year I put a male and female cal king together the day I took them out of brumation and they bred.. The other female cal king I had would'nt breed until after her 2nd shed. ???????. A few years ago I had a male breed while he was totally in the blue.????? Just try putting the male in the females box and observe.

I have a breeding tank so that I can take pics. Almost every night some lucky couple get to try the LUV tank. So far 3 females and all of my males have done the deed.

Ok, thqt sounds good, i figuered there isno exact science to getting them to breed, i know it is just when they are ready, i figuered it couldnt hurt to try, i set up two breeder sterilite container just for the purpose of obvserving and the femals will stay in them till they lay eggs.that way i can give them a nice big egg laying chamber. well have a good one

Question for you chris, is there one female that has only been bred to sharktooth? or do all the females meet all the males? just curious.

Is the only snake this year that I am trying to breed to sharktooth exclusively. I'm really trying to breed most of my females to more than one snake especially this year. All but one of my males are unproven. And all but one of my females also is unproven. I had planned on breeding all of my females with more than one male just to give them a better chance of producing viable eggs from a male with good sperm.

Here's the one I'm breeding to sharktooth only.

Aren't you interested in proving your unproven young males?

Yes I am but I also want to make sure that my females have the best chance possible this year to produce viable eggs. I'd rather make sure that my females are proven this year if possible. That's why I'm mostly breeding sharktooth and my yellow keyholed male. They are different enough that I should be able to tell from the babies which one has got the mojo if not both. But even my proven male is nice enough that I'll be very happy if he's the one doing all the work. I'd rather "prove" my young males next year.
