I live just south of Oswego County-The list of snakes is pretty short. N. water, e. garter, ribbon, redbellied, brown, e. milk, and thats about it. Remember, we're further north than Toronto up here!

Thanks!
Brad

Are the laws pretty much the same as in CA. as far as needing a fishing lic. for herping?

Right now there aren't too many restrictions-no license needed. E. massassauga is protected, of course-as are wood and bog turtles. But no problems with the snakes you're interested in.....

Brad,

Actually, NY did recently pass a bill that establishes limits on all native herps. Here's a summary of the jist of the bill, but I think there's a grace period, while the regs actually get written.

None the less, the discussions I had last week with DEC was that every native herp in possession, should be listed on a License to collect/possess. This includes copperheads too (irregardless of the fact that they are venomous - it appears, native animal regs trump anything pertaining to exotics). Anyone collecting native herps should obtain an LCP ($10) before hand).

hey Brad, I have talked to you before in some other forums. I was wondering if you are very familure with Cicero Swamp area. I know you had mentioned that Upstate Herp society does a count out there every year, but do you ever go out there other than that. and would you be interested in setting up a day trip at some point this summer?
