PLEASE HELP...new hatchling yolk??

crazyreptilelady Apr 07, 2006 04:46 PM

I just (like within the last 2 hours) hatched my first viper gecko. I have had some experience with leos and the one hatchling I had the yolk fully absorbed. I am sorta worried because this little guy (and I do mean little) has a pinkish ball the size of a small spit ball attached to his/her belly. I am guessing/hoping this is just some unadsorbed egg yolk or the equivalent of a umbilical cord but I don't know how to tell for sure that it isn't like a deformatey like intestines. Just don't have experience with this. Please help!

I have him in a new little set-up and he ran to a hidding spot. He is currently in the moist hide. Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

Hi Jessica, Congratulations on the new baby I know with my collared lizard hatchlings, at times one will have some unabsorbed yolk and I normally keep in the incubator a we bit longer.
But if hes in his own little home just keep him on some paper towels for a while. A little dampish is just fine. As long as it( The umbilical cord) stays clean and free from any sand/types of substrate.

It will usually just fall off. DON'T MESS WITH IT ! Hope all goes well

Post a pic of the lil fella when ya can, would love to see him
