Not Leo...But Gecko Hatchling Yolk Prob

crazyreptilelady Apr 07, 2006 04:55 PM

I just (like within the last 2 hours) hatched my first viper gecko. I have had some experience with leos and the one hatchling I had the yolk fully absorbed. I am sorta worried because this little guy (and I do mean little) has a pinkish ball the size of a small spit ball attached to his/her belly. I am guessing/hoping this is just some unadsorbed egg yolk or the equivalent of a umbilical cord but I don't know how to tell for sure that it isn't like a deformatey like intestines. Just don't have experience with this. Please help!

I have him in a new little set-up and he ran to a hiding spot. He is currently in the moist hide. Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

Its just an egg sack it'll fall off in about a day or two and nothing will be wrong. Most bearded dragon babies are born with the egg sack still attached and its the same thing as your viper gecko. Just keep the baby somewhere moist and it'll feed off the egg sack until it falls off.

Thanks. Actually I left it alone for a bit and just checked on him again (about an hour later) and it is already gone. And I don't see it around the cage. So I am guessing he ate it. Feeling much better already about it. Thank you very much. As it turns out he is a very active little guy = )
