Duck weed,lol

birdznfrogs Jul 29, 2003 03:05 PM

Ok, hello all...
I just went to my local Canadian tire(I"m CANADIAN), and bought some $.50 duckweed. The purpose maybe putting it in my firebellied toads, tank, or firebellied newts, of course unless you tell me its unsafe, or there's many cons.

Questions, first of all;...
-IS it a bad idea?
-Has anyone done it?
-ANyone have duckweed in there tank now?
-Smelly?

ANy input you have would be great,
Thanks
Steven

As far as I know, duckweed is fine to use. I used it for awhile, but the only problem is that when you stick your hand in the water to feed the animals, it tends to cling to your hands very well.

I've had Duckweed. Couple of things to watch for would be that it can get invasive and fast IF you have lighting. It can also get messy sometimes clogging up the filter. If eaten, it won't be harmful. It tends to bring a natural look to things and helps give the newts/sallies places to hide.
