I have a female who is 1 and a half years old. She was very fat and had a huge tail and fatty deposits under her forearms. So I decided to breed her with my male in the beggining of february. she has laid 6 eggs since late February, all fertile, and she has completely stopped eating. I am worried because she has lost a lot of weight. Her tail is getting really skinny and her fat deposits are completely gone. I am afraid that if she keeps going like this she will die. I have Offered her all her favorite foods and kept her temperature on the warm side consistent at 89 degrees. It hurts to see her get so skinny Like this. Any advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated. She also has calcium powder kept in the cage 24/7.

well you could boost the temp up to 92-93, sometimes a little extra heat helps. were the eggs laid in clutches of two? or one at a time? did she not eat right after she laid the eggs? all of mine would eat up to 20 crickets a night for a week after just laying, then they would slow down again if they had more eggs developing. mine would loose a lot of weight too but i just kept the crickets flowing. look under her belly to see if you can see anymore eggs ready to come out. how long has it been since her last clutch and meal? she may also be egg-bound.

She just laid two more eggs two nights ago. All of her eggs have been in clutches of two and i keep food in her tank 24/7. I'll check if she is ovulating again and I'll try raising the temps. She would only eat one or two crickets or waxworms after each laying and then completely refuse food. she won't even touch mealworms.

can you post a picture? i am just curious to know how skinny skinny is... but you know even human females act rather strange when they are the big "P" word she will probably lay a few more clutches and then go back to normal, hopefully.

Here is a picture of her that I took today but I don't have a picture of her when she was big and fat. All I have is pictures of her as a baby. Also should I feed her energy boost stuff like jump start or flunkers repti-aid?

well she doesnt look like she is in bad shape or anything just a little thin. i have used jump start in the past when i get a little worried. i dont fallow the directions though. it seems like it is made for larger reptiles like iguanas. when i use it i mix it with water. the ratio is probably a 3 parts jump start to 1 part water. so just a little water so it is easier to swallow. however when i did use it on a gravid female i never got mutch results but on my others i sure did. o ya im not sure what size suringe i used but its the small thin thin one and i would fill it up and feed it all to one gecko.

Thanks! I don't know if the pet stores around here have jump- start but i know they have something exactly like that made by flunkers. If they don't have jumpstart I'll get her the other stuff. How many times a day should I give it to her and once again thanks for all the advice.

well i wouldnt waste your money on that other generic stuff, i have tried several different types that clame to do the same and had no luck until a friend of mine and large breeder told me that jump start works and is safe. they only use the best too. if you dont have any available nearby i would go to www.reptilesupply.com. they have it for sale somewhere on their website. it might take a few minutes to find it because they have a lot of stuff but i have ordered other stuff from them and its pretty easy. so anyhow i suggest jump start. you can feed it once a day until you see an improvement and then maybe go to every other day. then i would just stop and use it as needed.
