What is so bad about Moonglow....>>>

vcaruso15 Apr 08, 2006 10:12 AM

Why does it make perfect sense to call a hypo Albino a Sunglow but it makes no sense to call a hypo Snow a Moonglow. When you really think about it it makes all the sense in the world. Snowglow dosent really make sense since you are implying the albino gene twice. I'm sure some people felt the same way about Sunglows at first too. If anything lets call Sunglows Hypo Albinos, Ghosts Hypo Anerys and Moonglows Hypo Snows. What it really comes down to is why reinvent the wheel now. In six months the term Moonglow will be just as common as Sunglow and other commonly accepted morph names, and none of this will really matter. This has nothing to do with how you feel about Mark or the name he created, he produced the first living Moonglow so he gets to name it. Lets just live with the name and move on. After all its only a name.

It's not that it is a bad name although I'm not a huge fan of it. It's the fact that Justin produced the first one. I can really see both sides. I really don't agree there should be a compromise though. Either Mark should have 100% say or Justin should have 100% say. And in my opinion since Junstin produced the first one he should get to name it. And Mark should have every right to call his a MoonGlow. But I'd be willing to bet money that the majority of people will refer to them as SnowGlows. I really don't see the name MoonGlow being a popular as sunglow if a few months. Someone needs to interview all of the big breeders and the ones who have been around for a long time and right a reptile breeding rule book. I'm really joking but this wouldn't be a bad idea.

I was on the phone with Justin as he was driving to his facility to see what he got from this litter. It was nice to hear the excitment in his voice since I personally know he's been humbled by the boa god's the past few years.

I DO agree that the person who first makes the animal (dead or alive) should be able to name it as is always the case.

SnoGlow/SnowGlow to me is ultimately the more descriptive and understandable name for the animal. However, in a free marketplace people are free to advertise their animal with whatever name suits them. The market will dictate what the end result will be and the accepted name(i.e. Pastave name debate from Ball Python forum). So cast your vote!

And Justin - I'm buying you the other three rabbit's feet for next year!
