Hi Jeff:
Great photos. Mixed bag right now with the hatchlings. The female started feeding soon after she arrived and is doing very well. The male is much more stubborn. I tried a short brumation in December but so far no luck. I started force-feeding him in February and he seems to be doing alright. With luck I hope to have him eating on his own in the next few months but we'll have to see. I'll take some photos soon.

All the best
John

Jeff,

Your adults are very nice examples of Euprepiophis mandarinus from Sichuan Province China! Are they wildcaught?

Thanks Bert, they're captive born and I searched a couple years to find an outstanding "silver" phase pair. I'd love to obtain a pair of Vietnamese, also. Last year was their first breeding and she produced 9 eggs---all hatching. That was a great day!!
I've found them to be rewarding and easy to care for, except they'll only eat freshly killed----no interest in frozen. Has anyone else found this to be true?

Jeff:
I try to get my mandarins on f/t as soon as possible. But some resist for a long time. And when they're going through a fast live pinks are one of the best lures to get them started again.

Jeff,

I agree that 'silver phase' Sichuans are the best! Would you care to give some info on the bloodline(s) of your Mandarins? Unfortunately I can give you no tips regarding the feeding of Mandarins; to date my male hasn't eaten voluntarily...

Regards,

Bert

I wish I knew, Bert. I got 'em in a trade for my albino thayeri. They were 3 years old and perfect. He originally got 'em at the Daytona show, but did'nt remember from whom. He had no luck breeding them in Florida---too warm, perhaps.
