Why Does My Ball Soak???

amoeba14 Apr 09, 2006 12:10 AM

Does not appear that my large female ball is going into shed. Why does she sit in her water dish day after day??? Temps and humidity are always the same. She has just recently adopted this behavior. She's in perfect health, has been fasting for the past 3 months and seems all around happy. Any ideas? Responses are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

T

So why shouldn't they. Like the previous post said, watch for mites, but a lot of my snakes enjoys a nice soak or two. Just make sure they aren't soaking day after day, then she could develope scale rot. I think. some one correct me if im wrong here.

I have 5 balls and two have ever soaked before and they had mites. Luckily they were in quarantine already. Pull her out and see if there are any mites if so seperate her from other reptiles now. If there are mites I recommend getting some Provent-A-Mite. It worked real well for me. If she is kept near other reptiles you may want to treat them as a precaution. Its really ewasy with PAM. I use it on all my new snakes now as soon as I get them wether I see any mites or not.

Are you meaning that you use PAM cooking spray to treat your snakes for mites? If so you may end up poisoning your snakes and killing them. Last I checked PAM was not pet friendly. Maybe I am wrong?

I would use a product like Reptile Relief. It's 100% safe to use on snakes and you can drench the snake in it and it won't harm the animal.

Can anyone shed some light on the safety or maybe lack there of of using a cooking spray on a snake.
Thanks

More and more people are calling that stuff PAM. I'm surprised more people haven't asked which works better, the buttery flavored or the olive oil?
