Safety while handling...

wayneb0415 Apr 09, 2006 12:53 AM

Hello,
My previous post told of how I have recently come to posess a baby JCP. I live alone... now assuming that this snake will grow to an adult size of 7 feet or so, would you say that it would be a resaonably sound idea to handle an animal of this size while I am by myself? Is this a snake that is strong enough to over power a 20 year old guy (should she for some reason devide to strike and coil around me)? Thanks,
_Wayne.

IMHO a jungle carpet python doesn't have enough weight to need another person around while handling. My JCP is my largest snake and I feel certain that if it came down to me or him there is no way the snake would win. That is why I don't have the giant snakes, I need to be the king of the castle. That being said, it's never a good idea to let any snake form a complete coil around your neck. Even with it just hanging on it can apply enough pressure for you to pass out. The weight of the snake is really more important as far as the danger goes than the length. JCP's don't get big enough to be a threat to a adult human.

This is actually a bite I recieved last night from a 6' male coastal. As far as having a painful bite, yes. Do they pose a threat to a 20 year old male in healthy shape? I certainly hope not. You shouldn't have any problems.

ok, might i ask what you were doing to deserve that bite?

Lol, if I find the answer I'll let you know. I got bit by one of the only snakes in my collection that has never shown any signs of defensive behavior at all. Just a fluke thing I guess.
