OOps one more question

Ok I figured I could put together a caging system consisting of 2 enclosures that are 5X2X2 I dont recal who said it but somone recomended 6X2X2 but said I could get away with 4X2X2 so I fugred I would meet it half way with the 5X2X2 Here is my bigest problem. The only spot I have to fit a system that is 5 feet long, 4 feet high and 2 feet deep is in my garage, It gets in the 40-50's in winter and near 100 in summer, the 100 in summer is only for an hour or 2 during the hottest part of the day so I am not to concerned about that but will a simple heat pad system with a thermostat be sufficient for winter time temps? So long as they have a spot to curl up on that stays in the 80-90's? Thanks a million.

In my opinion that would not work. I really want you to be able to keep your two boas like you do. I'm not to sure about the summer temps. I think if the ambient(sp) temp. was 100 that would be too high. But I'm almost positive that if it got down to 50 or 60 degrees this would cause major problems if not death. A RI would almost be inevitable. I know that a boa can get a RI even if the ambient temp. is perfect and there is a breeze that enters the cage. Maybe if you made a cage with no opening on the top and had two heat lamps. A cooler one to keep the ambient temp up,and a hotter one for a basking spot. But you really can't let the temp drop down to 50 degrees even if your snake can curl up on a hot spot. Keep in mind that I am no expert and these are just my opinions. I really hope you can figure something out, it sounds like you are really trying to make this work.

What if I used a coool light to keep the cages in the 70-80 range and a heat pad for more heat? That should work right? The design I have thought up would use small vents on the sides of the enclosures just for fresh air but for the most part they would be inclosed as well as insulated.
