This store is mis-treating their animals

pernads Apr 09, 2006 10:00 AM

Who can I call to have something down about this, The owner is a total num nuts, and laughed at me when I said something. They had a dead panther in a glass enclosure, a few dead tortoises, and about 50 adult beardies in a small, and I mean small enclosure. I saw tons on dead fish as well. They had Senegals, Panthers, Mellers and Flpanecks for sale, all in small glass encosures, with nothging for them to climb on. The Mellers is/was close to death. I hate places like this, so how can I blow them in??

Thanks,

Greg

Greg,

where do you live? Is there a herp society near you? An ARAV vet? Humane society? Go to the link below for listings of vets and societies (you'll see the links). I would also call your local humane society. Since there are actually dead animals it becomes a health issue so you can also contact your state/town/county health department. Don't just contact one of these sources I would contact every one!

You need to contact as many people as you can about this matter. It is terrible and should be eliminated. The process will be slow, painful and take up a lot of your free time....It is not an easy battle to win. First they will probably get a warning and minor fine. Nothing will really change, but people will keep a closer eye on how they care for their animals...

I doubt you alone will be able to do anything at all, so try and round up some people to help you out. Im glad you want to do something about it instead of sitting on the sidelines! Im really sad tp here about the abused melleri..They are such a great animal, and TONS have suffered already just to be our "pets".

Get a petition goin' or somethin' like that....

I fight for the unconventional
My right, and its unconditional
I can only, be as real as i can
The disadvantage is
I never knew the plan
This isnt the way just to be a martyr
I cant, walk alone any longer
I fight, for the ones that cant fight
And if I lose, at least I tried....

Call the local humane society, only if it's not affiliated with the HSUA or PETA - The HSUA are as bad as Peta, if not worse. Do NOT confuse them with the American Humane Association, a legit organization with "humane treatment of animals" as it's goals - not animal "rights".

HSUA and PETA are as against keeping exotics (and domestic cats and dogs) as they are against Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Don't get them involved, they use incidents like THIS as ammo against US.

Eric has a good point about WHAT humane Society to call.

One point though Eric, not ALL animal rights advocates are radical as-holes. It is a shame that those that ARE minimize the work of many legitimate and educational groups with animals best interest in mind. It's like the Eco-terrorists - hammering nails into trees to be cut (mainly in PNW) so they wreck the chainsaws, setting fire to certain new projects, etc. It is certainly not the way to make change. Conservation issues are a big part of my daily life and I find that people respond muc better to education/information than having some physical action which will only put them on the defensive (like throwing a brick and a note through he window of said pet store :-/)

Many years ago, PETA was an good ARA group but when they began their radical and destructive turn, I disconnected myself from them.

Anyway, not looking for the debate on these different orgs, just wanted to point out all are not created equal I am glad you did bring up this point for this discussion.
