Question about a hatchling iguana

imindawoods1 Apr 09, 2006 10:58 AM

Hi everyone,
I have been lurking, mostly on the cyclura forum, but I was happy to find this additional iguana mesage board to post.
I will be getting a cyclura (rock iguana) come late october from David Blair, and we are very excited. It will be our first cyclura. I want to make its arrival nearly perfect, and that of course includes the set -up of the terrarium where it will spend its first months. The tank is an 80 gal, 4 ft long by about 20" wide. Any ideas as to how to construct a "ledge" in addition to branches for basking purposes as I know they sometimes prefer not to be forced to stay on a limb all the time. I do want to go with a terrarium initially so we can regulate the humidity and temp very well, not too easy to do with a "cage" that is open all around. We are aware of the temp differences needed within the enclosure, cooler vs basking, and want to also be able to keep the iguana off the floor and away from feces. Also ideally, we want to have a "drinking spot" designated above the bottom of the terrarium, so a ledge wou;ld work out very well. Any ideas welcome!
thanks
Carol

At the cyclura forum above they will be able to give you better advice. Cyclura need a s***load of room, and even as juvies they need plenty of space to move about and be active.

The people at the cyclura forum are very nice, ask them all you want, they'll give you some great advice!
