lost colours,new enviroment

Anafranil Apr 09, 2006 02:59 PM

My young veiled lost his colours when I moved him to his new much larger cage 3 days ago.Obviously I thought the new enviroment should be the cause but I remembered my friends over kingsnake's chameleon forums that always are there to help and they solve my problems almost daily,so I thought I should ask instead of making assumpions my self.
He looks really healthy, eats regularly and moves a lot exploring the large space, also basks normally

I was hoping mine would gain colors because i'm about to build mine a new cage here within the next couple of weeks. I just he leaves his sour attitude in his old cage.

In my limited experience....I have found that when tehy are happiest they are not fired up.......usually they are colorful when they are "in the mood for love"...but just day to day living if they are not fired up thay are happy...content and not stressed....so....maybe your guy is very content and happy......

Chameleon's normal, relaxed, happy colors should be similar to their
sleep colors. If their daytime colors are dull maroon and gray, and their
sleep colors are bright green with yellow bands, something's up.

My male calyptratus did not start showing his bright colors until after
one year. Still, it was only when he was sleeping. I eventually moved
him into a smaller cage that I amde to be wall -mountable. He was then
6 feet up in the air, instead of 4 feet. Within an hour, his colors were
prime. and they've been that way for almost 4 years now (see pic).

I still haven't taken a pic of his fired up colors - they're all orange and
black - cool, but the normal colors are nicer.

He may be a bit intimidated by the new space...nothing is "his" territory yet, and he may be playing it safe and submissive in case a rival is around. As far as he knows, he was just plopped into a rival's territory. He should be fine after he is sure there is no one else around.
