How to catch to rescue?

Ferriss Apr 09, 2006 04:30 PM

A pond near us will be bull-dozed soon. The developer has given us permission to remove the turtles before that happens. They are good-sized - about a foot or so. How can we catch them? We intend to release them in a muddy area of Kentucky Lake, where a stream enters the lake.

Talk to your local Fish and Wildlife office. They would have the expertise and equipment that's necessary. If they won't actually help physically they at least will be able to give you the know how.

You need to build turtle traps. Imagine a large minnow trap with a turtle sized and shaped hole.

Also, make sure it floats or a part stays above water or your turtles will drown.

Bait with canned creamed corn.

Heres another design. For basking turtles.
