Went on my first trip out for the season and found this little guy. I am in sw MO. I think it is a western earth snake. It was around 6" or so and had absolutely no pattern.

That looks more like a Rough Earthsnake (V. striatula) but it is hard to tell from that photo. I would need to see a focused photo that showed the head shape and body.
