handling eggs: is it bad?

bluetreefingers Apr 09, 2006 06:46 PM

alright, so my female laid her first pair of eggs less than a week ago, and i am overly excited as it is my first time having a creature lay eggs in my room.
i like showing the eggs off to my friends, and sometimes i even pick them up to take a closer look at them.
i usually pick them up about once or twice a day in intervals of less than 20 seconds, so its not long enough to affect the temps.
but i was wondering if there was anything wrong with bringing them out of the incubator for a few seconds to take a good look at them.

and if theres a limit as to when handling can actually put the eggs at risk.

thank you,
aaron

im not sure if there is a limit on handling, however you should never rotate or turn the eggs. i never touch my eggs except when i put them into the incubator. i think you are playing a very risky game and i deffinetly would not do it. have you ever heard the saying "you see with your eyes not your hands"?

There are a few situations where handling your eggs is necessary, but showing them off is definitely not one of those times. Sounds like a bad idea to me.
