Help! Sick Creamsicle!

Rivets55 Apr 09, 2006 07:06 PM

I need help/advice:

Today my male creamsicle regurgitated a half-digested rat. While cleaning up the mess, I noticed a strange discoloration on his skin. When examined more closely, I found a raised lesion. It involves several scales and has a bruised/puffy look. To my dismay I then noted a few other less severe lesions scatterd along his back and belly. When removed from his cage he was listless and had poor muscle tone. The lesions seemed to hurt as he reacted/guarded when I touched them. I applied Neosporin topically. Tommorrow morning he's going to the vet.

Two photos attached - after application of Neosporin.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. He is 12 years old, 5 ft, and the father of many babies. I don't want to lose him.

Thanks,
John D

my black rat had similar marks... she was already out of blue phase and ready to shed and was in the moistened environment. she couldnt quite get out of her skin so i had to help shed her and when i peeled her old skin back she was good as new!!! sooo goodluck and i hope its the same for you!!

As far as I can tell, my guy was not in blue when this came on. I hope it is a shed issue, but it is worrying me that it could be systemic. Did your girl puke?

no, she didnt regurgitate, but her "poops" were small and runny... and VERY often. she did however refuse food for 2 weeks though. but it was in breeding season at my house so that might have been the reason too. but definately take it to the vet!!!

My male creamsicle, Mr. T, is at the vet for a biopsy of necrotic skin lesions - the vet thinks it may be bacterial or fungal, but is also worried about a systemic problem.

More later today.

Feeding live or frozen thawed?

Rivets55 Apr 10, 2006 07:15 PM

I only feed frozen thawed anymore. Last time T got a live rat, he killed the **** out of it. I felt sorry for the rat - he didn't have a clue and bled all over the place. Wasn't pretty, but Mr T was not injured and that was a long time ago.

Anyway, what ever he's got came on sudden-like, and wasn't due to an injury. Doc did a biopsy today and sent the sample off to the lab. Should know something later this week. Meantime, Mr. T has 3 stiches and is spending the night at Doc's place.

Regards,

John D

Here's a pic of Mr. T out for a stroll.
