Kalpetta: Life has become an ordeal for hundreds of families located in the catchment area of Banasura Sagar dam at Thariode with hordes of frogs started migrating to the land in the last few days.
The trend started around one week back. Now, frogs throng roads, pathways, wells, trees and houses. Many of them were killed by predators or by speeding vehicles.
The villages badly hit are Sinkona, Panthakandikunnu, Mankottukunnu, Ithiramchery, 11th mile, 12th mile and 13th mile of the Thariode panchayat of Vythiri taluk.
Adding to the worries is the snake menace which prey on frogs and flies that swarm dead frogs. “People are unable to live here due to the stench of dead frogs and almost all water bodies have got polluted,” says Lakshmi Radhakrishnan, former president of the panchayat
