I have used a few different controls over the years and the one I prefer I helix controls. I have five digital units running at all times and knock on wood have never had to use my back ups. Thanks Erick

sounds like you thinned out the crowd.

I use 6 Rancos for the racks((4'Lx 8 levels each), 2 for the incubators(ohhh no it's not a proportional!!!!!) have not lost a fertile egg yet, when I do I will consider a new thermostat.

And 2 for the oil heaters to heat the room.

with 3 wired on reserve for emergencies.

so I guess I'm partial.

They are very comperable to the johnson unit.

I'm still running the first one I bought though, so I guess
It's a matter of preference and comfortability.

I trust my units because they have not given me a reason not to.
maybe circular logic???

mgreptiles has the raw units for $48 on wow special, and I will probably pick up some more.

I have used.

1. Ranco's mainly for cages, and have used for incubators
2. Johnson for cages
3. Cheap Alife or whatever they call them now, for everything
4. Helix DBS 1000 and the Basic units for Incubators
5. Big Apple/Thermotronics Incubators

Basically ALL of the following work fine, You just have to decide what you are willing to pay out for them, The prices range any where from 25.00 to 200.00 each

I prefer the Helix DBS 1000....for Incubators... for cages I will use anything because the temps don't have to be a steady.

Hope that helps
Thanks David

If it is a Incubator I would go with the Herpstat, I have never used one of them but I have heard they are nice. I currently use Helix and a Johnson and a few Ranco's and a few others.

If you are using it for cages then you can use pretty much any of them, I feel your cages temps do not have to be as steady as your Incubator so for Incubators I would use a proportional thermostat, I know people use the others and they will work on a Incubator but I just prefer not to risk it. Thanks david

It would be for my new rack system I just built. I have also had great responses from corn breeders that use the BAH1000 from Big Apple Herp as well. It is not as expensive but so far hasn't given them any problems.

Unless you are going to need the Johnsons1500 watt capacity(ie,for multiple racks)..then just go with the 500watt Herpstat(I have both.)That way you already have your "incubator" t-stat,and can build your own faith in it,before the eggs come due.(Then go and buy the JC for your rack system.)
Herpstat has ALOT more features too.
