Panther Canyon locale pics

Thought I'd share a few of this little youngster's mug. This is the orange phase of the Trans-Pecos rat snake.
They typically start out golden-brown or honey colored and change ontogenetically, but some babies already have a lot of orange mixed in with their background colors like this one.
I can think of about three or maybe four people who have these. They are not common, and every single one I know of originates from this area of Presidio County.
Shannon Brown has a picture of an adult female on his site as well.
One of the parents of this baby is featured in Mike Price's recent article.
Sorry about the large size...I'll see if I can fix that.

Cheers!

On second thought, it would probably be better just to link to the page.

Beautiful Subocs Dusty. I do have the May issue of Reptile Magazine, and what a fine section that is they have on the Trans-Pecos Ratsnake.

Even though I know these animals were captive bred, some info on my experience of the local > it seems that between outside Lajitas, through and past Contrabano Creek and to and past Panther Canyon, there is that diversity of color of subocs more than anyplace else in numbers. A few off of south 118 are better than average color and of course there is the Black Gap suboc color representatives of either orange or distinct black patterned.

WC female from RR in '03.
She's a weird one, though. Still only about 15", and eats rarely.

Thanks for the compliments, folks! I wish I could take the credit, but Mike Price produced these.
But not all babies from the same clutch start out really orange like that, so I was lucky to pick up a nice one.
Shaky, nice RR animal. Don't feel bad, I have a double het(axanthic x blonde) female that is about 2/3 the size of her brother because she hardly ever eats.
Sometimes I think to myself, "Gosh, why couldn't it be one of the het males?! I've got plenty of those and to spare!" LOL

Thanks Aaron! Is Shannon going to breed that orange PC this year? Keep me posted on your Black Gap projects.
